Dear Parents,
My name is Traci Doyle, and I will be your child’s Kindergarten teacher. I am looking forward to working with all of you. I am sure that we will have an enjoyable and educational year.
At this point in time, I would like to tell you about some programs that I will be introducing in September.
The first is an old favorite that many of the children have been looking forward too, Traveling Travis. Traveling Travis is a special friend that each child will be bring home for the week (from Friday to Thursday). He is to go everywhere they go. Inside he has a special book where they will “write” about their adventures. Of course, they will need some parental supervision to accomplish this, but I am sure you will enjoy this task as much as the children do. Also contained in his little bag is a tiny photo album. In this album, you may place any photos that you take while Traveling Travis is with your family. The children may also draw pictures of their adventures and place them in the album. Please be sure to return Traveling Travis on Thursday so we can discuss his week. This activity will begin this Friday, 9/30/11 and we will be completing it in alphabetical order. Have fun!!
The other activity that will begin on Friday, 9/16/11 is our Alphabet Box. We will be studying two letters a week and I am asking that each child bring in objects, pictures from magazines, or toys that begin with those letters on the Friday of week they are studied. For instance, when we study the letter Ii, children may bring in a picture of an ice cream cone or an ice cube tray or a picture of their best friend Ian. Please do not worry about sending in duplicate items. This is meant to be a sorting activity as well as a concrete way for children to realize that letters and words are all around us. Once again, this will need some parental supervision at first but as we move through the alphabet, I believe they will be able to complete it more independently.
The last activity is so that we all can become better acquainted with each other. Each week there will be a “Star” student. The “Star” is to bring in pictures of his/her family and the information sheet to share with the class. All pictures will be returned at the end of the week. They will be placed in photo paper so that they will be protected from all curious hands and so they can be shared safely. I am also asking that children bring in any object that has a special meaning so they can share it with the rest of the class. I would like them to bring in things that show who they are. I promise that all “Lovelies” will be returned promptly. This activity will begin Monday, September 12, 2011. This activity will be done in reverse alphabetical order.
The following list will help you to know what your student needs to do for the next several months. Every student is responsible to bring in things for the alphabet box on the Friday of that week. Please save this list so that you can refer to it. Should it become lost it can always be found on my web page.
In Christ,
Traci R. Doyle
