In April, we had "Career Week" here at the Academy. We had many wonderful guest speakers. Thank you all for all the interesting information you shared with us. It really gave us some new ideas about what we'd like to be some day! It is amazing how God created us all differently so we could all love what we do.

Paul Keck is actually a photographer, but today he shared a very special book that he wrote when he was a young teenager. It was a journal primarily about the Yankees in 1978. He recently published the journal so he could share the amazing year the Yankees had with more people. The book is called "The Greatest Comeback Ever"  Paul shared great thoughts about how, in life, we all have times when we just need to turn around. He reminded us that with God all things are possible and we can always comeback from any bad times we may encounter.

Visit www.1978Yankees.com for more info on the book.

Ms. Crowe's Mom came all the way from Maine to tell us about her job as the Head Cook at Redington Fairview Genteral Hospital.  She told us about how to properly wash our hands and how to make sure the food is prepared in a safe way. The pan she has to use was really big! The children loved trying on the hair caps and apron, but the big hit was the rubber gloves! Mrs. Crowe also talked about nutrition and how many people who visit the hospital need special diets to keep them healthy.  What a great career!

Mr. Furlong is the Assistant Strength Coach for the New York Knicks.  He told us how hard the players have to train to get their bodies ready for a game.   He also told us how important balance is. What fun it was to watch Ms. Schiavone try to balance on the BOSU! It was much easier when she put on the bigger shoes. Hmmmm Ask your children if they remember why that is. We are amazingly created!

I loved how the little kids in the front thought that they could catch Mr. Furlong if he fell! So Cute!

Wow, those are some BIG shoes to fill!  Really tall Basketball players need big feet to stay balanced.  The blue shoe was Nate Robinson's. It is a size 10.5. Kinda Big! The red shoe belonged to Dikembe Mutumbo. It is a size 22! Wow! Maisie could almost use that one as a boat! Haha

Mr. Rathschmidt was a Hostess Delivery Man. He was the guy that filled up our favorite isles! He told us how much fun he had traveling around and seeing a lot of different people in the stores. The children particularly loved the treats he brought! Does anyone remember how many swirls are on each Hostess Cupcake? Mr. Rathschmidt also shared how God used a horrible car accident to change his life in a good way. He reminded us that we can always be surprised by what God will lead us into!

Mrs. Jones' father-in-law, Mr. Jones, was an Explosive Ordinance Disposal Diver in the Navy. He spent some time training Dolphins and Seals to help find explosives in the ocean. Once found, his job was to dissarm them. Very Interesting.

Mrs. Walker came to talk about being a stay at home mom and house wife. The children were all surprised to see how much our mothers do to keep our families running smoothly. They had to practice making lunches, feeding the baby, washing the dishes, folding the laundry, helping with school projects and even reading bedtime stories to the children while they complain about everything! The bigger students had to make a pie chart to fit all of these tasks into a day. Wow what a job!  I know the kids are all a little more appreciative of their Moms!

Ashley's Mom, Dr. Ojaimi, came to talk about being a scientist. She does research on the heart and how different things, like sugar and fat, affect the health of our hearts. She showed us how precise her measurements must be. The pipettes are used to measure tiny amounts of liquid. She also told us how much school you must attend before you can be a scientist! Keep studying everyone!

Ms. Schiavone's Martial Arts Sensei, Noah Mitchell, came to share his "day job" with us. He is a Production Sound Recordist.  The children had a great time testing the equipment! Did you know that the "clapper" is used to match the sound track with the video track? Pretty cool!
